One brand to be on the lookout for this year and next is New Balance. New Balance has released many of their classics for a number of years, but lately they have done alot more with them than what you would find at your average shop in the mall. Like Nike, New Balance has created “tiered accounts” so that certain New Balance products are only released to specific retailers. In boutiques you will find the best that New Balance has to offer. Here are a few of the upcoming New Balance 574s that will release at the end of this year and the start of 2008. Plenty more pics after the jump. Info thanks to HypeBeast.

The Funk Deli crew caught these fresh Brown Nubuck New Balance Shoes while strolling through the shopping malls of Manila. For $2900 Phillipine Pesos (about $72 bucks), the price seemed a little steep. We thought it best to wait it out so we could head online and check for a better price. Sure enough, it wasn’t hard to find.

OnlineShoes.com is selling the same Brown Nubuck New Balance shoes for $49.95.

Which means something interesting — everything (everything) in the Philippines is cheaper than it is anywhere else. $500 pesos can last you a day, and once you realize you’re spending $12.33, you start to want to live it up a bit. Shoes just cost way more for some reason. We’d love to hear a crafty, macro-economical explanation as to why.

But relax on the impulsive buying. Just wait till you get home, and look on the Net for the best price. At Funk Deli, we’ll do our best to share all the funky bargains we come across.

Take a closer look at DQM’s collaboration with Converse as part of the (Product) Red campaign. The shoe looks great and the cause of course is huge! Read more and see more after the jump!

Here a closer look at the Junya Watanabe Man x Converse Chuck Taylor Lo’s that they collaborated on for Spring 2007.

There are two version, each in several colorways that came out. There is one checker version that comes in navy blue, black and red and reminds of Vans and Skateboarding and then there is a model that has a plaid pattern in two colorways.

Both looking pretty classic and still we have never seen them like this before. Junya Watanabe always manages to present something classic and usually simple in design, yet it is completely new. Always striking and one thinks that the idea is easy, but somehow only the best in the world manage to do that.

For Spring 2007 Converse got together with Junya Watanabe. The designer made 6 versions of the low Chuck Taylor with all sorts of different patterns and materials in use. This quote describes perfectly the collaboration strategy of Junya Watanabe:

“One of the main concepts behind my men’s collection is to collaborate with brands that have one way or another, perfected something, The Chuck Taylor is certainly an example of this.”

The sneakers will drop early March at Barney’s, Colette, Comme des Garcons, Saks Fifth Avenue and other high end boutiques

Those old canvas shoes sitting in the back of your closet are back with a vengeance this Spring. But if you’re not content with one of your old tattered pairs (apparently the dirtier and shaggier the better), and you’re not happy with buying something that everyone else will end up wearing, Converse’s home page will let you design your own unique pair. You can choose from a hi-top to a low, and you also get to choose the body color or pattern, the inside body color, the heel stripe color, the tongue color, the lining color, the rubber sidewall color, the racing strip color, the stitch color, and the lace color. And to top it all off, or rather bottom, you can add your custom text to the heel stripe or the outside low rear. The price for these custom sneaks are even reasonable – a pair that we created was just $60. And once you’ve put your master piece together you can print it out or email it to a friend, in case you need a second opinion before you take out your credit card. And that is probably a wise thing to do, because we’re starting to think that perhaps we should leave the shoe designing to professionals (see our creation above).

Converse shoes asked me to design a shoe for their new (Product) Red line. I was only more than happy to do so. I'm no designer, but what the hell. I took some 4H sewing classes when I was 12, but I can't make a straight line to save my life. So I got out the glue and went with when I know, food. I headed down the street and bought some "Barbès" shopping bags, a sac of oranges and some grains from Togo. In the process, I found a market that sells fresh tamarind and Kraft cheese wheez. I used all of this plastic and 2 tubes of super glue to design my Chuck Taylor. You can't see the plastic Togo bag, as I used it on the back of the shoe. And no, I didn't try the grains. I couldn't figure out what they were and the bag didn't have cooking instructions.

If they choose to market my design a percentage of sales will go to a charity in my name. That's cool, a bit lunching ladyish, but very cool nonetheless.

Just out yesterday in Stussy Chapters across Japan, these World tour canvas boots by Cause. Subtle all-over World Tour cities tag print covering the upper, rubber World Tour badge on the heel, plus the iconic World Tour tee graphic on the ankle. All correct. Selling for about $160 USD inc tax.

I've had a life-long love affair with Converse sneakers, and I'm not the only one. With an ever-changing variety of patterns and designs, all of which still manage to have that "classic sneaker" look to them, Converse shoes are a natural collectible. Below are some shopping resources, as well as links for more information and custom options.

Another release to accommodate Converse 100th Anniversary is the Skidgrip Repair. The Converse Skidgrip Repair originally released in the 1940s, and is back once again. Using different materials and colors, Converse has also touched them with a Vintage look with a distressed midsole

For their upcoming February releases, Converse Japan stuck with the Expo Nippon theme, drawing inspiration from time-honored Japanese artisan crafts. Three different Converse All-Stars and one Pro-Leather Low Model will pay homage to Take-Zaiku basket weaving, Higo-Mari thread balls, Ise-Katagami paper crafts and Icho-Itto wood carvings. Aside from the craft-inspired editions, three other new models will round out the upcoming collection, including a black snakeskin Jack Purcell and a yellow version of the Marine Sea Crisp

Marquis Converse laid the foundation of the Converse Shoe Company in 1908. The company is also quite well-known as the Boston Rubber Shoe Company that has been producing quality shoes since the beginning of the 20th century. Their winterized rubber sole shoes are quite popular among kids, men and women. The company saw immense popularity in a very short span of time and just in two years it began to produce 4,000 pair of shoes per day. In 1915, the company also started the production of tennis shoes.

The company started the production of its well-known basketball shoes during 1917 and it was considered an impressive innovation as basketball wasn’t an old sport at that time. Converse shoes saw a big break when they were approved by famous basketball player Chuck Taylor as his favorite shoes.

From afar, it looks like any other CONVERSE All Star with camouflage pattern. This updated version of the All Star brought back the camouflage edition, first release in 1983. In place of the regular canvas upper, however, premium suede is used instead. This special edition is part of the CONVERSE 100 year anniversary collection
